FAQ

Questions, answered.

If you're new to wood flooring, these may help.

All frequently asked questions
Which areas do you cover?

Mainly the Chilterns, across parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire. We also work further afield, depending on the size of the job.

Outside those areas we typically don't take on jobs smaller than 30 to 40 square metres.

Which is better, oil or lacquer?

It depends on how much traffic the floor will get and the look and feel you're after.

An oil finish leaves the wood looking and feeling more natural, but wears through quicker and needs a little more maintenance. A lacquer finish is more durable, but won't look as natural. With the right primer under the lacquer, you can get a slightly more natural look.

How much dust will there be?

Restoring a floor will generate some dust, and there's no way to eliminate it completely. We limit it by using dust sheets to stop it spreading through the premises, and sanding equipment with dust catchers.

I have scratches in my floor. Can they be fixed?

Most surface scratches can be repaired, either by sanding the floor back to bare wood and refinishing it, or by treating the affected areas. Sanding also removes any dirt that has worked into the surface of the wood.

Light scratches that don't go through the finish can often be hidden by simply resealing the floor.
